Prudence

Yesterday's launch of Labour's manifesto for the general election saw the return of an infamous word from the Gordon Brown era - prudence.

Now prudence was Gordon's watchword when he was chancellor of the exchequer, wheeled out at every opportunity to emphasise that New Labour could be trusted with the economy, although as soon as Gordon became Prime Minister in 2007 government borrowing and public spending went through the roof.

The other irony is that Ed Miliband and Ed Balls were both special advisers at the Treasury and big supporters of Gordon Brown during that period before going on to become Members of Parliament (MPs) in their own right in the 2005 general election.

Now whether the voters believe that 'Prudence' really is back with a vengeance remains to be seen, but I have to say I'm taking it all with a great big pinch of salt.
