Party whip David Hamilton was accused of sexism after he made the ‘disgraceful slur’ about the First Minister

As if the Scottish Labour Party did not have enough problems these days, one of its MPs, David Hamilton, has made a major boo boo by describing Nicola Sturgeon (the SNP leader) as "the wee lass with the tin helmet on".

Apparently Mr Hamilton made the comments during a speech at the Scottish Labour conference and was later given a dressing down by the party's deputy leader, Kezia Dugdale. 

Later still a Scottish Labour spokesperson said: 

"David Hamilton acknowledged his comment was inappropriate immediately after he made it" 

Yet only hours before Hamilton told his fellow conference goers:

‘We’ve got to go out there and not just be negative about the SNP because that’s very easy to do when you see the wee lass with the tin helmet on.’


Now Nicola Sturgeon is more than capable of looking after herself, but you do have to wonder at the sheer stupidity of it all and the attitude of knuckle-dragging MPs who behave in this way.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer. So here's a list of activities which will help shine a light on what has been going on because as Lord Nolan once said apropos driving up standards in public life - 'daylight is the best disinfectant'.
