Strange Fruit
I came across this evocative Billie Holliday song the other day 'Strange Fruit' which was released in 1939 and is a protest song about American racism and the lynchings of African Americans.
The song was originally a poem written by Abel Meeropol, a white Jewish teacher from the Bronx in New York who was at the time a member of the Communist Party.
Terrible and haunting words, but they helped to change the world.
