North Lanarkshire Update

The good news is that North Lanarkshire Council will meet next week to ratify the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on equal pay.

Now until this is signed and sealed there is no 'final' agreement, but I do not expect things to unravel at this late stage because the Council clearly does not want to go back to the Employment Tribunal which is what will happen if NLC fails to uphold its end of the bargain.

So we all have to wait a little longer for the Council to confirm its agreement to the MOU at which point a brief formal announcement will be made following which the details shared with all equal pay claimants.

In other words while we've yet to cross the finishing line we are at least in the home straight.

NLC Update (04/03/15)

I've got a good feeling about today.

I think this might finally be the day when North Lanarkshire Council confirms whether we have an agreed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and a settlement of the Council's outstanding equal pay claims.

Let's hope so - because I think everyone's nerves are getting frayed.

NLC Update (03/03/15)

I'm not sure what's going on at NLC HQ over in Motherwell, but it sure is taking an awful long time for the Council to sign off the proposed agreement (MOU) over equal pay.

I mean, how long can it take for the Council to approve a package of measures that have been under intensive discussion for months?

Maybe news will finally emerge today.

No word as yet from North Lanarkshire's HQ in Motherwell, but things are moving behind the scenes apparently.

So let's hope we hear something positive very soon.

NLC Update (01/03/15)

A number of readers from North Lanarkshire have been in touch to ask what will happen if the Council fails to sign-off on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) next week?

Well the answer to that is very simple - without a binding legal agreement (which has been under discussion for months now) all of the equal pay cases will go back to the Employment Tribunal.

Same as before.

NLC Update (28/02/15)

My sources in North Lanarkshire tell me the Council is making arrangements next week to seek approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which has to be agreed before there is any resolution of the long running equal pay dispute.

So, who knows?

If the North Lanarkshire dots all the i's, crosses all the t's and formally signs off on the MOU, then in the next few days we might be able to say that final agreement has been reached.

In which case a brief joint statement will be issued to signal an end to hostilities and soon thereafter detailed letters of explanation will be sent out to all equal pay claimants.

Now I make a point of never counting chickens before they're hatched and as we've been here before it's definitely a case of 'fingers crossed'.

So watch this space.
