The 'K' Word

Kuffar - Urban Dictionary

Also spelled 'kafir' or 'kaffir', Kuffar is a highly derogatory Arabic term used to refer to non-Muslims, though it is usually directed less against "People of the Book" (Christians and Jews) and more against others (Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, etc).

Separate laws govern Muslims and kuffars in an Islamic state with kuffars being viciously suppressed. For example: the blood payment to the family of a murdered Muslim man in Saudi Arabia is 1,000,000 Riyals; the payment to the family of a murdered Hindu woman is 3,333 Riyals.

The Independent published an article the other day which reported the views of an educated young man called Aysh Chaudhry, a trainee lawyer apparently, who seems to hold the view that Muslims are "superior" to "the kuffar".

Elsewhere in the piece the newspaper reports Chaudhry as saying that moderate Muslims are "succumbing to the corrupt values of the kuffar (non-believers)" presumably have taken every advantage of these values throughout his young life.

But I for one object to the use of this term 'kuffar' by this ignorant young man because it is clearly intended in a pejorative way, as a term of abuse against fellow citizens.

So I think I will contact Clifford Chance to complaint about this individual because if you ask me, Chaudhry is bringing his employer into disrepute and the legal profession, along with all reasonably minded fellow Muslims.

Clifford Chance video: Trainee at top UK law firm uploads 21-minute online rant blaming Charlie Hebdo shootings on non-Muslims

Aysh Chaudhry says 'we would not be here if kuffar had not gone to our lands and killed our people and raped and pillaged our resources'

By ADAM WITHNALL - The Independent

A trainee lawyer at one of Britain’s top law firms has been forced to apologise after posting a video online in which he blamed the Paris shootings on non-Muslims who “killed our people and raped and pillaged our resources”.

Aysh Chaudhry, a 22-year-old whose job at magic circle firm Clifford Chance makes him one of the best-paid graduate employees in the country, accused moderate Muslims of “succumbing to the corrupt values that the kuffar (non-believers) are trying to impose on us” in the wake of the terror attacks that killed 17 in France.

He said “Islamic personalities” who had spoken up for freedom of speech following the deaths of eight journalists at satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were “not giving a correct Islamic response”, referring to it as a “defeatist mentality”.

Chaudhry belongs to an east London youth group that refers to itself as “Call of Dawah” – the term for a summons to an Islamic cause – and his video shows the name stylised to look like the title of war simulation video game series “Call of Duty”.

Posted to YouTube on the 11 January and since made private, the video begins with the trainee saying that he will address “the events in Paris that have taken place over the last few days”.

He says: “Brothers and sisters, we would not be here had it not been for the fact that the kuffar had gone to our lands and killed our people and raped and pillaged our resources.

“This, brothers and sisters, is what we need to understand. We need to move away from this apologetic tone and have confidence in Islam because we are enslaved otherwise.”

Throughout the course of the 21-minute video he refers to Muslims as “superior” to “the kuffar”, calls on viewers to “stop putting freedom on this pedestal” and refers to secular, liberal beliefs as a “bankrupt ideology”.

Chaudhry’s video first emerged on the City news and gossip website Legal Cheek, and he has since issued an apology “for any offence caused by my video”.

He said: “I have a deep and serious Islamic faith, I had no intention other than to encourage intellectual debate and would never support or condone violence.”

Clifford Chance, which pays its trainees £40,500, told the Evening Standard the 22-year-old was still an employee and that he would not be facing any disciplinary action over the video. A spokeswoman said: “The views expressed in this video are personal and not those of Clifford Chance.”
