They Dance Alone

Here's a haunting and powerful 1987 song by Sting, 'They Dance Alone', which he wrote in tribute to the Chilean women who danced the "Cueca' alone with photographs of their dissappeared loved ones, victims of General Pinochet and his fascist junta which overthrew the elected government of Salvador Allende in 1973.

The dictator Pinochet ruled over Chile for 17 years, but his undoing came about as a result of a national referendum in 1998 which voted against the fascist general from continuing as President and led to democratic elections.
