No Magic Wand

Pope Francis has been in the news recently airing his views that a belief in God is not incompatible with a scientific view of the world.

Apparently the Pope accepts that the Big Bang and Darwinian evolution are the real deal on the basis that God is not 'a magician with a magic wand'.

Now that seems like progress to me because for years many religious leaders argued that the words in their Holy Books were the literal word of God and, sadly, some still do.

But what always puzzled me when I was trying to come to terms with religious teachings is that if a Supreme Being had to exist to get the whole process started, then who created the Creator?

And while I'm on the subject, I find it impossible to believe that God waited billions of years to reveal him/herself to the world, then why do certain groups (Catholics, Jews, Muslims, Mormons etc) all believe that he has singled them out as chosen people?

Doesn't make sense.

Pope Alert (8 December 2013)

Conspiracy theorists everywhere delight in trying to highlight connections between otherwise unconnected events - a favourite being the assassinations of President Abraham Lincoln in 1865 and President John F Kennedy in 1963.

But here's a set of contrived connections I've never come across before - so if any readers are on good terms with the Vatican, I hope the will do the decent thing and draw this post to the attention of the Holy See.

1981 & 2005

Interesting Year 1981

1. Prince Charles got married.
2. Liverpool crowned soccer Champions of Europe.
3. Australia lost the Ashes.
4. The Pope died.

Interesting Year 2005

1. Prince Charles got married.
2. Liverpool crowned soccer Champions of Europe.
3. Australia lost the Ashes.
4. The Pope died.

Lesson to be learned:

The next time Charles gets married, someone should warn the Pope.
