Holiday BackPay Campaign



I imagine the Holiday BackPay Campaign (HBPC) will now take off in a big way because the Employment Appeal Tribunal has just ruled that additional elements of pay such as overtime, shift payments and bonus payments should all be regard as part and parcel of 'normal pay'.

Which means that they should always be taken into account in calculating holiday pay and during other periods of an employee's annual leave. 

As regular readers know the HBPC keeps attracting new groups of workers every day and the ruling applies to just about everyone - women and men, and workers right across the private, public and voluntary sectors.

Simple HBPC Test



Here's a simple test to help discover if you have a holiday backpay claim.
  1. Take your entire wages for 3 months without holiday pay and divide by 3 to give you your average pay for those 3 months.
  2. Then compare this average pay with your pay in the month you were on paid leave. 
  3. If your holiday pay is less than your average pay, then it is less then it is highly likely you have a claim. 
If in doubt make a claim. 
If you don’t make a claim you won’t get paid anything - as many people found out to their cost over equal pay. 
If you the sums don't work out for you, then pass the word on to your friends, family members and colleagues as they may have a claim, especially if they work shifts or regular overtime.

SNP - Conspiracy of Silence

So here's the issue - two Glasgow MSPs (Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf) have been asked a reasonable question about their use of public money to employ two SNP councillors who already have full-time, salaried jobs as senior elected members of Glasgow City Council.   But these two public servants (both long-serving ministers) refuse to answer, so what to do next? One regular reader suggests raising the matter on the floor of the Scottish Parliament which is a good idea, but requires an MSP who's prepared to put down a written question for Scottish Ministers to answer.
